So Rami got the boot

Video by SelectOK from Youtube

I feel sad that she is taken out of the American Idol picture now but pretty much agree with the result. She just kept on holding even though the judges kept telling her that she should let go of her voice some more. Kung sobra si Carly sa birit, kulang naman si Ramielle.

I love her, not just because she is a Filipina, but because her sweetness is over the top! You can see that through the contestants that have been surrounding her. It's almost as if I am inclined to think that she's just there to make friends rather than to win the whole thing. But all is good. She's a household name in the Philippines and I wouldn't be surprised if she'll have her own record locally.

Or if not, I hope Manny Pacquiao will let her sing the Philippine National Anthem in his next fight. Just a suggestion.

Fat Boy

I weighed in at 83.4 kilograms this morning when the nurse at the Medicard Head Office clinic checked how heavy I was, and it shocked me quite a bit since this is the heaviest I have been all my life. Kinda makes me reconsider my lifestyle and keep track of my eating and exercise habits with more diligence. So the doctor said I was obese and my blood pressure was a bit high for my age. I think it was 110/70 or something close those figures.

So now, work out will commence at around 12:30 am of Thurday, right after work. Hehe.

Expected... Was hoping... Still proud...

Unfortunately, my Dad was among those who did not pass the September 2007 Philppine BAR exams. I quite expected the result so my hopes were not as high as I wanted it to be. The circumstances he went through before the exams was quite evident during his stay with us here in Makati. I am not as close to my Dad as I am with my Mom, but I know when he's bothered and when he's not in his comfort zone. The BAR exams may very well have been the icing on the cake on top of his emotional and physical woes, so I don't really blame him for failing.

I know my Dad is reading this and I would like him to know that our pride and respect for him are still as high as he could ever imagine. Heck, he may not have the title of Attorney right now but he is so good that licensed lawyers could still look dumb when they have to argue with him. And knowing the achiever in my Dad, I would really, really be surprised if he flanks his retake.

But no pressure Dad. As always.

I see it now: All gone to waste

I will be talking about Jun Lozada again. What can I say, the guy is famous. He was optimistic that his conscience and honesty will spark a wide-spread attack against corruption. He was idealistic enough to believe that his initiative would do great things for this crime-inflicted country. And most recently, realistic enough to know that all this could just go down the drain because of our very legalistic justice system. Tama siya. Meron tayong matatag na sistemang legal pero sa sobrang legalidad ng proseso natin, nababalewala na ang hustisiya.

Everybody is hoping that we'll still get something good from this razzle-dazzle circus act called senate and supreme court proceedings.

Boys will be boys

My wife and I got our son his inflatable pool anew in what looks like an attempt to minimize his tantrums in insanely hot afternoon in this place called Manila. As American Idol's Randy Jackson described David Cook's performance last week: "Hot! Moulton hot baby!". Seriously though, it's really hot. It's 23:55 as I am typing this post and I am perspiring heavily.

Anyway, when we arrived from the department store this evening, my son immediately asked me to pump some air into his pool, which I followed very quickly. After which his Mom poured in some water and it was only half full when he made a big splash that got us all wet. In just a few minutes though, he unleashed a sinister act that reminded me strongly when I was little. He urinated in his pool and kept stomping water out of the pool after that. Good thing we we're able to take cover or else we could have been pea-bombed. Hehe.

I just find it funny that the things I did before that made me laugh still tickles my funny bone. Moreso now that my son is doing exactly the same things.

I am freakin' nervous

Philippine BAR Exam results will be out today and I am very anxious and hopeful that my Dad's name will be among those who have passed the exam!

When my Dad and I talked about it last week, he would just laugh it off and plainly say "let's just hope for the best". He looked very calm and relaxed. I would really like how he looks like today. Will he still be able to keep that excitement inside of him or will the anxiety be evident? I gues I will have to call my Mom later. :D

Fingers crossed.

Stupid Me, Poor Me

My next project supposedly was to buy an air conditioning unit to battle the notorious Philippine summer heat. But then there came the PSP. I am happy that I finally have my own playstation console after how many years of wanting to get one but I am feeling a little bit stupid because now we all have to suffer this freakin' heat wave. Stupid decison. Stupid, stupid.

Now, stupid Keng does not have enough resources to get that air conditioner.

Stupid Keng. Poor Keng.

Waaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Just now

I liked Chris Daughtry when he was still competing in Americal Idol Season 5 but didn't follow his career after that. Up until now, I haven't heard a single song from his album (or is it albums already?). The guy sounds good, his songs are well written and the end product is great. No wonder my wife loves him.

Speaking of American Idol, this is the first season that I have watched all episodes from the get-go. It is primarily because of fellow Pinoy Ramielle Malubay and I am becoming a fan of the other contestants as well. David Cook rocks! He has the Daughtry-esque style but my wife disagrees because he finds Chris to be a lot more charismatic than David. Carly Smithson's voice is superb, but she's beginning to make poor song choices. Too bad David Hernandez had to go. I really liked his rendition of Papa was a rolling stone.

I'm a Flirt by R. Kelly is a funny song. Sweetest Girl by Wycleaf Jean, Akon and Lil Wayne is awesome. I really like that song.

Sports Journalism at its worst

I don't quite understand why so many people love to discredit athletes when they themselves should know what should have happened in a sports match-up. Though Manny Pacquiao's split decision victory over Juan Manuel Marquez was almost 2 weeks ago, I find it bothersome that a number of our "premiere" sportswriters and broadcasters just can't shut their mouths about their opinion that Manny should have lost the fight. I may not have the extensive experience they have in covering sporting events but I have been following boxing closely for over four years now and I must say that the decision was right on target. Here is my scorecard:

round 1 - 10/9 Pacquaio
round 2 - 9/10 Marquez
round 3 - 10/8 Pacquiao
round 4 - 10/9 Pacquiao
round 5 - 9/10 Marquez
round 6 - 9/10 Marquez
round 7 - 10/9 Pacquiao
round 8 - 9/10 Marquez
round 9 - 10/9 Pacquiao
round 10 - 10/9 Pacquiao
round 11 - 9/10 Marquez
round 12 - 9/10 Marquez

Manny wins in my card in exactly the same score as the third judge, 114-113. While I thought that the match was a draw right after the fight, when I re-watched the fight just now I had Manny winning by 1 point.

I have admired Quinito Henson when I was a sportswriter in high school and I still admire him until now because of his impartial, factual, and very academic approach in his write-ups. Di mo lang siguro maiwasan na madaming papansin sa Pilipinas.

Diversion

Amidst the turmoil that has been going on the past few weeks, I'm still quite happy that certain Pinoy individuals are being used as instruments to lessen stress.

Ramiele Malubay is awesome in American Idol 7. I think that she has the 4th best vocals among the girls behind Carly, Syesha and Alaina but her stage presence is unbeatable! So much charisma revolves around her simplicity and meekness that you just have to like her. Plus, she looks like my cousin who is also in the states (Go Army! Hehe).

How about the ultimate bonding factor for Filipinos these days? Boxing. Specifically Manny Pacquiao. He'll be up against his nemesis Juan Manuel Marquez and everybody is anxious and excited on what will be the outcome of their much-hyped and much-anticipated rematch.

I hope more and more individuals get bigger breaks in their careers and be recognized worldwide that will enable them to uplift the spirits of the Filipino community. I certainly hope that someday, I can share my talents and skills to make a difference.
